Great Grand Nona Giuseppina Capone
This lovely lady is my great grand mother.  She was my mother’s father’s mother.  I love so many things about this shot but mostly the gigantic knife she is wielding.  I wouldn’t want to meet this nona in a dark ally.  What she is actually doing in this shot is cutting a slice of pasta cashada.  Full disclosure - I have no idea how to spell pasta cashada.  We tend not to write down recipes in my family.  Cooking comes from the soul, not a book…well, sometimes I use a book. Sorry Nona!

Lady Dates

Finding a location for dinner or drinks with your ladies can be tricky.  You want somewhere fun and lively, but not so loud that you can’t carry on a conversation.  I always look for places that could double as a date spot but don’t dip in to romance territory.  I also look for places that are reasonably priced with plenty of dishes to share.

Bocca East

78th and 2nd

This restaurant is relatively new but the menu and wine lists are solid.  The vibe is rustic Italian and the décor is pretty without feeling contrived.  There are plenty of plates on menu to share and the wine is reasonably priced (bonus!)  This spot can get busy so a reservation is recommended.  If you arrive before your friends, hang at the bar and knock back a glass or two while you wait.

What’s good?  The rice balls and a glass of the Super Tuscan “Innominato” Cennatoio 2008 Toscana

Who else can I take here?
